What do you think about Mothra?

I previously used to think Mothra was overused (to be fair, she still is) and a bit overrated, but after KotM she’s become one of my favourite Kaiju of all time! I love how she’s the Yang to Godzilla’s Yin, always willing to fight and sacrifice herself for others. Definitely deserving of the Queen of the Monsters title.

i think mothras been used in too much movies. I mean, shes in HALF of the millinum films!

She used to be my #1 favorite, then she got bumped down to #2 by Gigan. I still love Mothra tho

That goes to show I suck at grammar, and at least I spelled them good to the point you recognized which kaiju's I was trying to mention.

I love Mothra. I enjoy the Showa Mothra most for the ambiguity over whether or not she's a goddess or something more natural. Although it's only alluded to in the movies, the novella seems to indicate Mothra is a goddess that has merely taken the form of the creature we know as Mothra. The most interesting thing about her being that when she dies, her kin are not traditional offspring, but merely her reborn over and over again.

This is fascinating because I recall a take from one of the Mothra vs. Godzilla filmmakers (Sekizawa?) that I wish I had saved years ago. Mothra knew one Larva would not be enough to defeat Godzilla, so she was reborn as two Larva. Once the mission was complete she had no need for two bodies and, as explained in Ghidorah: The Three Headed Monster, "one had died."

The filmmaker in question seemed to indicate that the living Larva ate the dead one in some kind of twist on Asian religious mythology that I'm not very well educated on.

Im not sure what the twist is either, but I have a few ideas. It could be based on the Godess of crops, and when another god killed her all the crops we have sprouted from her body. I’m not sure though. The Japanese pantheon is much more violent, then others from what I’ve seen
