What did destroy the ship Randa was on?

I believe that WoG has stated that it was indeed Godzilla, it's just that the filmmakers didn't want to outright state it since they felt that audiences didn't need to be simply told it was him.

Jordan Vogt-Roberts said outright that it was Godzilla in the audio commentary of the Skull Island Blu-ray.

Well, while Godzilla isnt hostile towards humans, he won’t think twice about going through you if you got in his way. That’s probably what happened, the ship happened to be on a collision course with Godzilla and Godzilla rammed through it.

My assumption is the filmmakers felt Godzilla being a villain was still a real possibility during the making of Skull Island. That's why Randa paints him as a terrifying bringer of death.

Turns out he's basically the Showa Godzilla.

G. H. (Gman) So do you think that they're actually going to (most likely) "retcon" that part of the history of Skull Island in GvK 2020? I feel like they would so that Godzilla is not hated on by the audience. (Unless something happens to Godzilla at the end of KOTM 2019.)

I don't think it will necessarily be retconned. They just won't bring it up again.

I don't think there will be any waiting and seeing on this topic. But it's interesting that Vogt-Roberts says one thing somewhere and another somewhere else. Guess it also depends on when the audio commentary of the Blu-ray was recorded.

It's also worth noting John Goodman thought it was Godzilla as well. (Around the 2 minute mark): Toho Kingdom John Goodman Interview.
