Its hard to say. Godzilla was based off of the Nuclear bomb, if there was no Nuclear bomb there wouldnt really be a need for him and his destruction right?
But things have a way of happening, Godzilla could just be based off another incident something else just as Gruesome if not more.
Good grief.

Maybe, but as GG said, there could be one based on another event.

The power of the Godzilla character rests almost entirely on his roots as a manifestation of Japan's lingering feelings after the bomb was dropped, and their fear that such an event could happen again, espeially with the Cold War happening around them. Japan may have made monster movies (after all, America never got nuked, and we made PLENTY of monster films in the 50's), but Godzilla, at least as we know him, woul never have manifested.

I just did a project on Hiroshima funny, anyway looking at the pictures and the numbers, there terrible the things they kept me up a night or two, if there was no bombing then there would be no godzilla

Things have a way of happening, yes, but if Godzilla was based off another incident, then it wouldn't be the same. Atomic Breath might end up being the Global Warming Breath or the Fracking Breath. It wouldn't be the same Godzilla we all love.

It's entirely possible that Godzilla would still exist. Everyone here seems to forget that there were TWO bombs dropped on Japan; in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
If no bombs were dropped at all, then there wouldn't be a Godzilla, period. There probably wouldn't even be a Tokusatsu genre.

GOJIFREAK23 - This is an incredibly interesting and thought provoking topic! Hmm...In all honesty, I'd have to say the chances of Godzilla existing in his present form would be very slim were it not for the world changing advent of the atomic age and the utilization of that staggering power to produce two of the most catastrophic man-made events in Earth's history. Of course, that's simply my opinion on the matter! Thank you ever so much for bringing this extremely compelling notion to us! :)
