MemberMothra LarvaeMay-19-2014 11:43 AM(First, I would like to say that I am aware of the "Ideas for the Sequel" post by JOEANTHONY1954, but I feel that commenting it there would not get me the proper feedbac, so, if there is any problem with making this separate, I have no problem if this gets deleted)
Having this Godzilla been a critical and box office success, no wonder that a sequel is already in the works.
The plot for such film, even without the new Godzilla surprise element, would still have lots of potential. Just imagine:
Background:
-Some months/years after the events of the first movie, mankind had to deal with the fact that they were completely vulnerable to beings such as Godzilla (AND NO, THEY DO NOT BUILD JAEGERS OR GIANT WALLS). As San Francisco is rendered innabitable because of the nuke combined the monsters residual radiation, it is quarantined and is considered a Ground Zero (much like New York World Trade Center), having a memorial at the entrance of it (at a safe distance of course) where every year people leave red Canna flowers (the first ones to blossom after Hiroshima bombings) to remember the victims of the monster's rampage.
-Monarch gets re-established, now as a world-known division of the UN dedicated to Massive Unidentified Organisms, with Serizawa as it's director.
-World economy is weakened because of a domino effect that started at the US because of destruction and losses and on top of that, there is a strong investiment in armament research, mostly in biological and nuclear weapons, leading to lack of investiment in essential resources, creating a general discomptempt and some riots. Terrorist attacks multiply.
-(This one is something that Gareth Edwards hinted himself) Media is influenced, and mostly movies that come out based on the attacks. (much like Godzilla appeared because of Hiroshima and Nagazaki).
Main Plot:
-Somehow, a monster way more deadly than the female MUTO appears from the dangerous weapon research that has been made by some country (much like the Monarch did with the MUTO) without the knowledge of the Monarch Division like the discovery of some hidden mutated MUTO crysalis is kept secret until it breaks free.
-Godzilla does not immediatly appear immediatly and Monarch recreates his path since he dove back to the ocean the day after the final battle of the first film, finding him on the Mariana Trench playing Smash 3 (just kidding on this part XD).
-Monarch assists Godzilla by sending a special unit with specialized weapons to help him out if the situation gets FUBAR (this would be a good oppurtunity to Ford Brody come to play), and at the same time, a terrorist cell called Ghidorah start acting , seeing the monsters as weapons that can be controlled, and since the UN is aiding Godzilla and the fact that he just appears to fight the monsters and leaves mankind alone after that, they feel the need to eliminate him and decide to "adopt" and aid the new MUTO against him, hoping that once Godzilla is dead, they will lure it into the major countries that support the already fragile world economy, making the world go into chaos.
(I say this imaging some cool scenes where as Godzilla and the MUTO battle, Monarch and Ghidorah forces clash into a firefight below)
- The special Monarch unit members could have a good role and explored relationships between each other.
-Ghidorah forces get their asses kicked, Godzilla wins, returns home to play Smash 3 (XD), roll credits.
This is what I expect (mixed with some personal taste) of the next american Godzilla. What do you think? Is it too political (maybe as I tried to keep my imagination as realistic as possible), or do you think this is nosense? Please let me know!

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-19-2014 11:52 AMI liked your idea a lot.....until the terrorist cell was called "ghidorah", it's just, no, the old toho creatures are not part of this world and their references are kept to a minimum. It would be brilliant if they were called something else. Great idea though! Maybe you should expand it!

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-19-2014 12:02 PMI would rather not have the story be set up that far distant from the first movie. For me, I see Godzilla as like a pilot episode, and that would make Episode 2 happening almost instantly later.
Because really, when the world realizes that monsters exists, THAT's the juicy parts we shouldn't skip. We should explore how the world reacts and what they would do.
IF the rumors about Mothra being at the end credits around Asian theaters is true, I would very much want to know what they would do with it, because there's so much potential in setting up the MUTOs being servants of Mothra, and when Mothra is actually benevolent that creates confounding conflicts and gives reason for us to mistrust her. Thus creating intense conflicts.
So much could happen on the ambiguity that I'd love the idea for the sequel to concentrate on this.

You have a point on the name. These are new Godzilla series, but I thought that a blink to the past would be ok. As for what you said about expanding this... do you think it would be a good idea if I wrote a fan script for a possible sequel for this movie?
