MemberMothra LarvaeMay-17-2014 9:55 PMWell the name says it all but before you read I forgot a couple of things.
1. I forgot to mention that I liked the spotlight on the Muto's for the first half of the movie as they are new monsters that need their brand new storys told.
2. I do consider Godzilla to be an anti-hero, because in his fight with the Muto's, how many millions of peaple were more likely than not killed.
3. Yes, Godzilla is a force of nature that keeps the balance, thats why he killes the Muto's, to keep them from infesting the planet with their offspring.
4. I have never reviewed in this (mostly) professional fashion so healthy criticizm is welcome.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-18-2014 5:24 AMPretty valid points. I think the MUTO role are sort of Jurassic Park-like. These things had their shot...and it ended for a reason. On a primordial earth with lots of giant beasts running around, these parasites played a role. But they are parasites...they give nothing back. THEY are suppoed to be cleaners so to speak...with nothing to clean...all they would do is infest earth like a giant virus...kill everything and eventually die themselves.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-18-2014 10:47 AMIf Godzilla was really here to maintain/restore balance, he would have killed off most of humananity centuries ago. Which animal distorts the balance of nature more than man.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-18-2014 12:04 PMHmm, perhaps true...hence my idea for the next movie!!!
One thing I like to point out to folks though: the conventional wisdom that says how we are apart from nature, or how we "ruin" nature...not so sure. To be sure, we degrade levels of biodiversity and do other things that would not occur without our presence...many of them perhaps not in the best interests of our planet as a biosphere...but we ARE here...so we're part of it all, and maybe WE are a balancer of sorts...or a parasite...we have the ability to be both. Anyway, the earth has gone through all sorts of purges, mass dying-offs etc...since long before we were around...small mammals just had better press secretaries I guess...
So, Ratedrex, you were looking for a flawless, seamless background/history?

MemberBaragonMay-18-2014 12:22 PMThe only big problem I have is with the advertisingas opposed to how Godzilla's character played out. He was presented in advertisments(most of the scenes he was in in early previews were changed in the actual film) to be our punishment, when that role was filled by the MUTO. I have no problem with Godzilla being a hero but I don't agree with doing that after making trailers to make him appear as though he's also a threat to us when he essentially ignores humans and simply pursues the MUTOs throughout the movie with little to no punishment coming our way from him intentionally.
