I know 98 was hated and thought of as a disgrace, but we needed it. Not as a punishment, but to make us be thankful for the atomic breath. For the original design. For two monsters being in one movie. These things were missed so much that they were crucial for the next movie. I don't think any of us would appreciate this new movie half as much if 98 didn't happen because there would be nothing to miss.

That's why we needed 98.

It's true, we needed the '98 movie in order to apreaciate this movie. And it's because the '98 movie did all the mistakes an American Godzilla movie would have. Instulting and very different to the source material, without any spirit, creature design that looked nothing like the original, lazy story, etc, etc, etc. With this movie made, the creators of the new movie knew what NOT to do. Also, if the '98 movie had been succesful we probablly won't have this one :).

It was like the "Batman and Robin" to "Batman Begins" ;).
