MemberMothra LarvaeMay-11-2014 10:26 PMHello everyone! This discussion isn't too important, but let me get started . . . ANYWAY I know some of us have expected every review to be incredible, and we'd be confused if otherwise. However, monster movies are NOT for everyone. So don't let a review stop your own personal viewing. A few critics complained about the story and or acting, yet the same ones have also nit-piked movies like the older Star Wars movies, Jaws, Jurassic Park, and etc. Movies that many of you and I ADORE. As well as them being held as cinema classics and masterpeices.
EVERY and I mean EVERY movie has it's problems. You can nit-pik any movie. Hell, even the Dark Knight movies are criticized harsh, yet many people still hold them as, the top of super hero movies. It's not about the problems, but the extent of them. Even then, its about how much HEART is put into the movie. Remember Peter Jackson's King Kong? Was that a ground-breaking unique never done before story line? Of course not. Was everyones acting top notch? No, but it had HEART.
Ultimately, what matters is that Godzilla fans love this movie. And so far, the ones who have seen it do! (I have seen it) and must I say, it is a masterpiece of monster movies. I saw it at the premiere, I had horrible seats sadly. :/ Anyway, this movie met all of my expectations. Many people will claim that this movie lacked substance, and I disagree. It had incredible substance for it was unlike any monster movie I've ever seen. It was more than just a Pacific Rim or a Transformers movie. Also ATJ was decent, not awful. He reminded me alot of the way Christian Bale was in Terminator Salvation. Not bad, not excellent, but got the job done. Bryan Cranston on the other hand, wow..tear jerker.
P.S. I listened to the soundtrack before I saw it, I thought it was just decent, but now that I've heard it in its completion while watching the movie, I find it stellar! Very Toho Godzilla-like with a hint of Jaws. lol oh and this movie had a few elements from Gareth Edward's "Monsters", which I loved.

I'm one of those guys who didn't like The Dark Knight triolgy, especially the third one. I thought they had way too much stuff going on. To this day I don't what the villian in the third movie was so angry at. Plus, I couldn't understand his muffled dialog. Furthermore, Batman was only in the friggin movie about 5 minutes. The Dark Knight Rises should have been titled "Christopher Nolan's overly complicated, overrated, clensing of his dark soul."
There have been about 5 perfect movies: Jaws, The Godfather II, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List and The Wild Bunch. There are a few near perfect movies: The Best Years of Our Lives, Glory, LA Confidential, The Little Mermaid and Patton. And there have been some almost near perfect movies: The Empire Strikes Back, The Graduate, The Godfather, Raider of the Lost Ark and The Sting.
Godzilla 2014 may not make those lists, but I get the feeling it will still be one of my all-time greats.
