So Emmerich says now that the design was because TOHO of all people, said it couldn't look anything like their design?!?!?! That excuse is such crap, I don't even know where to begin.

Even if you were to go along with his statement that TOHO was okay with the design, which is certainly a possibility, that's only part of the problem with the '98 movie. Perhaps the bigger issue is the fact that Zilla was not only a coward with all his running away, but also frail, as he was easily put down with a few missles. Those two elements were much more insulting that the design and I'm sure could have, and should have been different.

I'm not entirely sure what's so infuriating about his statements, here. He isn't insulting anybody. He's expressing interest in the new Godzilla and talking about his Godzilla. Seems more like cautious optimism, to me.
