MemberBaragonApr-12-2014 10:58 PMI expect him to have pretty much the same level of intelligence that's displayed in the heisei and millenium series. So pretty much basic cognitive thought. Maybe able to figure out some basic problems, but judging by the size, and what appears to be extremely tough hide I doubt he'd need much problem solving abilities as he'll simply run through everything we throw at him.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-12-2014 11:46 PMIn all honesty, I find it incredibly atracctive that a woman cares for the big G as much as I do. I hope to one day find a lady such as you to raise ypung Kaiju with. But to awnser the question in a way, Gareth Edwards did say the creatures will have personalities, so the lends to the having at least some base level of cognitve thought. But never purley good or evil, beyond at least GMK"Posesed Goji". I think there will be a honest character to Gojira.
But thats just my opinion.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-13-2014 12:03 AMIn my opinion, Godzilla should be pretty intelligent. In most of the films he shows basic problem solving capabilities. Even Zilla shows it. As for brain size, alot of it would be dedicated to motortory and instintive skills. Its an intresting point you put foward, DURP004. I never thought about it like that.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-13-2014 12:18 AMI think he will be smart enough to be able stage ambushes and use, as you said earlier, use objects to hit monsters and other things. I think he also be able to figure out weaknesses, like for example, the Heisei series, that Biollante was vulnerable to fire and Godzilla might be able to use that to his advantage.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-13-2014 1:17 AMI actually do think godzilla will have the cognative ability to use objects around him as weapons. The kaiju in pacific rim, leatherback especially was seen to uproot a crane from the ground and use it to club a jaeger. Who is to say godzilla will not possess the same intelligence!

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-13-2014 1:53 AMYes she did actually, I forgot about otachi, she probably shows the most menacing and sinister personality of all the kaiju and I think the muto creatures will possibly behave in a way like her while godzilla, I think, will have a more neutral and innocent personality!
Just my thoughts, no real evidence, just speculating!

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-13-2014 2:40 AMHe'll be smart enough to drop an antigravity Megalon dropkick on the mutos.

MemberTitanosaurusApr-13-2014 4:22 AMIf these creatures are to display themselves as more than ordinary creatures, a level of cognition beyond mere expected animal intelligence will be required. And, not being a completely biologically evolved species does help, changing the way you look, act, and think over time. I don't expect them to be performing complex equations and whatnot or acting like stereotypical cavemen, but I do think that them recognizing certain threats and dealing with them a bit more creatively than the average animal should be expected if this cognition is to be desired.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-13-2014 6:12 AMInteresting discussion. I'm probably making this connection b/c I've recently watched Gojira (1984), but I imagine Godzilla to have the same ability to solve problems and manipulate the enviroment as, perhaps a raven. Experiments have shown these birds to be rather intelligent and able to complete fairly complex puzzles.

Daikaiju Danielle
MemberMothra LarvaeApr-13-2014 9:09 AMIt'd be cool to see Goji take risks in order to rid the Mutos, somewhat like how Godzilla 2000 literally threw himself into Orga's mouth in order to blow off his upper body.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-13-2014 9:20 AM@Trickkelly, I was about to say that. If Godzilla has the ability to solve problems like a raven, then the mutos are in giant trouble.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-13-2014 10:42 AMThis is a great question and it's one I've considered myself. I do believe that we will see some form of cognitive thought when it comes to Godzilla in this movie. Gareth explained awhile back that the fighting in the movie was inspired by Bears and Komodo Dragons. While watching a video of said species fight one another it became very clear that what we might get is lots of grappling and shoving with clawing and biting. That in itself can be entertaining to see colossal beast behave that way in a city landscape. But maybe that's not quite dramatic enough? As a nod to the original Godzilla and fans of the series I fully expect to see him be a bit inventive with his attacks. Like maybe hurling a flaming tank or aircraft at a Muto or pinning one down with his massive foot while pulling limbs free. I personally would love to see that. He might even take a smaller Naval ship like a cruiser and lift it out of the water and bash the troops on the Golden Gate Bridge with it. One can dream. Lol!

MemberTitanosaurusApr-13-2014 12:29 PMI always though Godzilla as a thinking animal, to a degree. He always knows who his allies are. He has many tricks up his sleeve...so to speak for example the drop kick he used on Megalon in Godzilla vs Megalon. He just seems like an intellegent animal. That's how I view Godzilla, as a intelligent creature who doesn't rely on sheer instinct alone.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-13-2014 6:17 PMWell to be honest, if Godzilla is the force of nature we can expect him to be in this film than I don't think we'll get to see anything of that sort honestly. What we'll likely be witness to is a unstopable monster making a path through his enemies and overwhelming them all, Muto's included. Ultimately, what intelligence is their in an earthquake, or a storm, or even death itself? Attempting to delve that deep into the monster will serve only to over characterize him and take away from his status as a living plot deviced hellbent on returning the earth to dust and annihilating his enemy, Hokmuto and the Winged kaiju. Of course, that isn't to say that I would mind seeing some advanced intelligence in the collosal monster, it's actually quite the opposite. I just hope Edwards keeps to his word that Godzilla will be a force of nature.
@SOMETHING REAL - Good talk by the way.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-13-2014 7:46 PMWell, I think he would be pretty sentient. And like Daikaiju_Danielle said, it was pretty smart of Godzilla 2000 throwing himself into Orgas mouth to blow off Orgas upper body. And remeber in Invasion Of The Astro Monster where Godzilla does a victory dance? Any normal monster wouldnt do that, I suppose. And remember in Godzilla X Megaguirus where Godzilla 2000 cut off one of Megaguirus's hands with his sail fin? So yeah, I think Godzilla would be pretty sentient in the new movie, maybe even detecting attacks before they even come!

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-13-2014 9:19 PMA female Godzilla fan?!?!?! INSTANT CRUSH <3 Anyways, about Godzilla's sentience, he'd probably have as much intelligence as a Velociraptor or something of that nature. Gareth said the movie was going to be realistic, and since the back of the Jakks Pacific Godzilla clearly stated that his origins were from before the dinosaurs "...when the surface of the earth was ten-times more radioactive than today," organsims then didnt have brain-to-body ratios on our scale, but were capable of independent thought nevertheless.
