MemberMothra LarvaeMar-30-2014 8:01 PMhi everyone its me again in my 2nd post so anyway people have been thinking of a sequel to the new movie with all these ideas and that but i remember some news a long time ago about a sequel here is what i remembered
1. its going to have a monster island setting to it (so monster island exists?)
2.its going to have a destroy all monsters theme to it (so theres gonna be lotsa monsters in the sequel?)
3. hedorah will return but this time he's born from a nuclear power plant incident (hedorah, really?)
4.theres gonna be another monster called mitodah an "earth saving monster" (no comment)
btw this came from gareth edwards himself and the director of godzilla vs hedorah (the director of g vs h
is actually helping gareth edwards in the movie) oh and remember gareth edwards favorite movie is actually "Godzilla vs Hedorah"

MemberBaragonMar-30-2014 9:43 PMOh boy, where do I start with this...
#1: Gareth mentioned that if he ever got a chance to do a sequel, he would love to explore the Monster Island concept. This sequel has NOT been confirmed and may be wishful thinking from us and Gareth, although I do hope he gets to make such a film.
@2: The proposed Hedorah sequel has NOTHING to do with Legendary. Its the idea of Yoshimitsu Banno, original Hedorah director and Godzilla 2014 producer. It has not been formally announced, and at this point is still a conceptual idea that may become a Toho produced film, but may not happen at all. It would defintely be great if it did happen, though. The concept of a new monster is intriguing, and it would be amazing if it were a suitmation film produced by Toho.
#3: Gareth NEVER said that Hedorah would be appearing in any Legendary sequels, and mentioned that the original Godzilla vs Hedorah was ONE of his favorite movies, not his favorite. He has stated at nauseum that the original is his favorite.

MemberBaragonMar-31-2014 1:49 AMAs a side note Banno really needs to get off his Hedorah train. It's been over 40 years and it's not exactly the staple showa movie that needs to be continued.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-31-2014 5:02 AMThe concept of Hedorah coming back in a Legendary film is very intriguing. I honestly do hope that someone convinces Gareth to do it.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-31-2014 8:38 AMgareth edwards has stated that they are focusing on making this movie a standalone movie, so when you watch it there will be NO hint of a sequel, it all depends on the success of the movie. if he did, hedoarh while a cool monster was only original at the time, do you know how many movies a based on the fact of pollution, that theme has been overused since the end of the cold war and hedorah is basically a symbol of pollution, a modern audience will be like 'OH GOD not anouther anti-pollution film' however hedorah or any showa monster has more chances being in a sequel than mechagodzilla or destoryah.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-31-2014 10:48 AMSo, Mitodah will come and Hedorah makes a comeback ? I wonder if we will see Vishnu (although he appeared first in the SDCC 2012 trailer, he surely won't be in the movie).

MemberBaragonMar-31-2014 2:18 PMi know this will never happen but remember the plans that mr. banno had about reviving hedorah and calling him deathla? well i always thought deathla would make an appereance some time but mr. banno was denied with that plan so i fully understand that deathla will never make an appereance any time soon. however seeing hedorah again would be nice :)

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-31-2014 11:30 PMThere is nothing confirmed about a sequel at all. Everything that Gareth said are things he would like to explore, but they are not actually part of anything because a sequel is not yet in the works. They're going to wait until this film has made its first impression before they even think about making a sequel.
If they do make a sequel, it's going to be interesting to see what they actually go with. But as for the things you said, let me clarify a few things for you:
"1. its going to have a monster island setting to it (so monster island exists?)"
Again, this is somethign Gareth said he'd like to explore. That doesn't mean it's actually going to be in it.
"2.its going to have a destroy all monsters theme to it (so theres gonna be lotsa monsters in the sequel?)"
This is a misinterpretation of information, and no, Gareth never said anything about the Destroy All Monsters theme or storyline. Gareth said he wanted to explore the Monster Island concept from DAM, he didn't say anything about the movie's own plot or story in any way. Everyone who said he wanted to do a Destory All Monsters sequel misquoted him and misinterpreted his exact words.
"3. hedorah will return but this time he's born from a nuclear power plant incident (hedorah, really?)"
This is completely false and would never happen even with Banno's involvement if he returns to be an Executive Producer on a sequel if one comes around.
"4.theres gonna be another monster called mitodah an "earth saving monster" (no comment)"
This is also completely false and was only ever a rumor.
Gareth Edwards has admitted that his favorite Godzilla movie is Destory All Monsters, not Godzilla vs. Hedorah, just as one final correction.
Anyway, it's nice to see you involved and trying to help flesh things out. But right now the sequel is not even on the table yet. Gareth himself has said that he's waiting to see how the film does before a sequel even becomes an option. If it does, then we have a lot to look forward to and a lot to speculate on.
Right now, a sequel could have anything. Is it going to have a Monster Island in it? Maybe, if Gareth sticks to his previous desire to explore the option. Will it have more monsters? If the reception of the Muto's and Godzilla himself is high enough, then most likely. Will it have Hedorah? Absolutely not. Banno said he's working on putting together a Godzilla vs. Hedorah 2 movie, but it will have no link to Godzilla 2014 here in America.
