MemberMothra LarvaeMar-10-2014 4:43 PMSo with Godzilla coming back I have thought about something that is very important, sequals. So ho many sequals are there going to be? I'm thinking there are at least going to be a dozen because there is a chance that OHO will give the rights to some of the Godzilla monsters and Legendary could have more opportunities to make movies. So how many d you guys think will be made? Also post your ideas for a few.

I'm hoping a lot!

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-10-2014 5:52 PMSo long as they keep turning a healthy profit, they'll keep making movies.
That being said, there are some doubts that even this movie will make money, so we MIGHT just be looking at one :-(
As time goes by however, Godzilla looks increasingly likely to hold it's own at the box office. I had more fears in the past than I do now, so I do think this first movie will make a profit.
After this first movie makes money, they'll make a second, and with some confidence, and some profits, they'll have a pre-built audience, they'll be able to properly market a sequel, and give it a better release date, so that one will have better chances of making money than the original if it gets made.
A third movie is where I see it ending. They'll probably have done something silly to jump the shark at this point, and audiences will have some "Godzilla fatigue". Not us G-Fans, but G-Fans alone won't warrant a sequel.
Long story short, from Legendary, I EITHER see them making this one movie, or I see them making a trilogy. And that's it.
Now TOHO on the other hand, I could see them making 4/5 more movies, riding Legendary's popularity if this first one does well. They've given Godzilla a healthy break, and Japan provides a consistenly loyal audience for Godzilla. So if Legendary knocks it out of the park, I could see TOHO actually making more movies than Legendary for a longer period of time before giving it a rest.
But yeah.....some of that might happen. Maybe none of it will. It really 100% depends on how much money each film makes, which is impossible to predict.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-10-2014 9:39 PMit's the most anticipated movie of 2014 so the chances of a sequel are high but I don't see them going beyond a trilogy and I'm certain Toho won't be making any new films until the American franchise comes to an end. They're in direct partnership and will be making a good penny out of this so I wouldn't be surprised if its another decade before an actual Japanese Godzilla film.

MemberBaragonMar-10-2014 10:41 PMMost anticipated movie of 2014? Let's not overhype this and get people's hopes up. Just because 1 source put it as their #1 does not mean other sources put it much lower, or it didn't make their cut at all.
I see the chance this movie gets a sequel, I mean even the 1998 version made a large amount of money before it's reviews and word of mouth cut it's profit down quite a lot. Then again the 1998 was marketed much more so I guess I can't really compare them.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-11-2014 1:11 AMProbably a triliogy. I doubt there will be a dozen. I also have a feeling that this might just be a stand alone film without any future sequels.

MemberBaragonMar-11-2014 9:42 AMIf Hollyood's track record is anything to go by, then I expect a trilogy. That seems to be the standard for big films these days, particularly reboots. If the film does well enough to warrent a sequel, then expect a third film to follow. Part of me thinks a brilient, stand alone Godzilla feature would be amazing, but the fanboy in me (which is pretty much ALL of me) wants MORE!!!! The there is one thing that has defined Godzilla over the last 60 years, is sequels. I don't think Legendary will be able to pass up continuing the franchise, but they need to do it in a smart way. Firstly, they need to continue the story in a way that does not trivialize the message and impact of the first film, which is something that pretty much all the Toho Godzilla sequel series' ultimately did (even though they were obveously all great, fun films!). Secondly, and perhaps most importantly... Gareth needs to be involved in the sequels. I am so impresssed with this guy, and I haven't even seen the film yet! It needs to be a "Gareth Edwards Trilogy", as I don't think any other director woud be as passionate about the subject as he is. Let's hope Legendary treats the future of the King right!

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-11-2014 1:46 PMI hope they do more than a trilogy, I also don't want them to develop the quantity or quality mindset. But like others have said, let's wait until we see this movie before we start making predictions. It might flop, which I highly doubt but you never know, but then again it could be the movie of the year. But if the movie is successful, like Danzilla93 said, Gareth Edwards should be brought in to finish what he started. From what we can see in the trailers, he is treating this movie seriously and I really like the serious approach that he is taking in this movie. I think it'll be a fantastic movie but we'll just have to wait til May 16th to see for ourselves

MemberBaragonMar-11-2014 3:53 PMwell lets see their marketing has really kicked into high gear here and wal mart already has a godzilla poster so i am looking for them to get the toys in real soon. i also know that the official trailer has crushed the competion on views between the amazing spider man 2, the new transformers movie, and the new x-men, so i have to say that this movie will hopefully be number 1 when it stomps into theathers and that it will be so successful that it will warrant at least 2 or 3 more movies :)
