Hey folks,

First time poster, long time lurker. In these recent days following the trailer, I've noticed several discussions focused around the flying MUTO, in particular, heated arguments over whether or not it's insectoid or Rodan. I decided to make this post because there has been some evidence missing that recently came out and I feel it should be addressed.

Gareth Edwards recently did a commentary for the trailer. While the entire thing is rather interesting, the part that is of most importance of this post is a point where he comments that the little origami figures that can be seen in the upper left hand corner of one of the clips are a piece of foreshadowing. http://www.slashfilm.com/godzilla-trailer-commentary-gareth-edwards-plus-new-images-footage-reaction/ All of these origami figures look remarkably like Pteranodons (or perhaps cranes, but I find that an unlikely foreshadowing). So with that in mind, let's take another look at our flying friend.

There really isn't much to go off of in that first glimpse that we get of him, but let's see what we can make of it. His wings appear to jut out from his sides, connected with where the arms should be. Now while I'm not expert on insect, I have never seen one like that. In fact, most insects have wings sitting on their backs, at least as far as I'm aware. Meanwhile, our boys legs seem to just backwards, in the way that Rodan is usually shown, or similar flying creatures with two legs, such as eagles.

Moving to the next clip that our friend appears in, it seems less clear about what he may be. The appendages that we see sticking out of the water are clearly not your average insect wings, appearing more solid, and dare I say leathery, than what might be expected. However, they also seem to me to be too close together to simply be wings (again, not an expert in anatomy). However, I am inclined to believe that they are some sort of wing, as the creature is diving into the water from above and there is no impact splash from where wings would be (also, that's just a terrible way to dive if you have wings).

In conclusion, This thing does not appear to be insectoid. Is it Rodan? I find that unlikely as it has been stated that no other TOHO creatures will be appearing in this film. However, it seems likely that it could be a creature based off of Rodan. Feel free to debate this as you see fit, but please, keep it civil.

I like to think it's a homage to Rodan. Although I have heard rumor of the Giant Condor.

Or maybe it's this:

(Does your name happen to be reference to the third colossus from 'Shadow of the Colossus'?)

I found something interesting about that flying MUTO. I thought it could be Rodan or somethin like that but I believe it is something totally different. If you freeze the trailer during the scene where the bridge is visible you can see something flying around in the background. If you freeze it just right you can see someing with two wings and a tail. After you find it then go and look up flying destroyah and comapair the tail to the scene where the flying creature is diving into the water.

If the toy fair desciption wasn't buglike I might see the chances, but since we know 1 flying monster in the film looks like mothra with Gigan' hooks I don't see a Rodan like monster making an appearance. Unless there are 2 flying monsters but doubt it.

I'll ad that I think the monster that they shoot flairs toward to get a better look is also the same creature that is diving into the ocean.  If you look at the reith side you can see what looks lke a wing attachemnt where it meats the chest.  Certainly that chest is nothing like Godzillas's.

Also, take a look back a couple years.  A bust was leaked from Legendary.  Brian Rogers gets misinterpreted to say it's not from the movie.  All he actually said was "That's not our Godzilla."  Could this be a hint of the flying MUTO?

Compare the textures on the neck of the bust with those in the flair shot.  They look pretty similar to me.

if you look left of the falling helicopter at 2:11 or 2:12, just about when you first see the helicopter, pause it and look left of the helicopter. you will see what looks like a wing and a head moving from behind it, i know its a head because if you watch it frame by frame, you see the head, or at least the mouth, moving and opening up a bit. it also matches the color of teh wings on the flyin gmonster and the wing part looks identical. this also explains why the helicopter is on fire and falling. you might have to watch it a few times but you will see it eventually :D

put this here cause my topic about it got closed :P

I don't think that clip at 2:11 is a MUTO. It looks mechanical to me. I'm not exactly sure what it is, but too little of it is in the frame, too briefly.
