MemberMothra LarvaeMar-01-2014 7:48 PMNow to end the Gill debate Godzilla does not have gills my friend is a scientist on lizards and amphibians and he analyzed all of the pics of the gman and he confirmed they aren't gills but they are scales because if you look at empires second poster showed the scales going from the top of his neck all the way to his shoulder blade and gills wouldn't be on his shoulder blades even if that poster was just a poster design gills still wouldn't be on the shoulder and bigger scales that kinda looked like the ones on the side of his neck were on the front of his neck and gareth ment realistic in a kaiju perspective and a human /emotional / disaster perspective
so now to end that. now onto the concept trailer centipede monster talaghan, they are coming out with a bandai figure of him so it's highly possible he is in the movie and there is also possible a second flying muto because one muto was described as having butterfly like wings,a fly like head, two legs, and gigan like claws and then during the scene in the trailer we see the other flying Muto if it was a muto and in the part right before the jet pretty much falls on the boat there are to things flying and flapping there wings and there's something going around about a water muto and it was seen in the poster were godzillas spines were rising and people were on a battle ships and helicopters were pointing there lights at something on the left.
So godzilla has no gills and godzilla will most likely fight dozens of small mutos and the eight legged muto and a giant muto and talaghan and four flying monsters and a water monster :) .

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-01-2014 8:28 PMI see what you mean about the gills, but keep in mind that he is most likely supposed to me a mutated monster. which means that different aspects from different animals could have mixed with him during his mutation and that if there was more than one godzilla, that evolution could have had a playing part in it. that's just my opinion. i actually think it's cool that you went to a scientist about that. Now there are actual scientists studying Godzilla!!!

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-01-2014 8:32 PMnow onto the other monsters. That's just kick ass that Talaghan is now confirmed to be in the the film! I also like that fact that there is the possibility that there are giong to be more than just 2 HUGE mutos in the movie! and that there is possibly going to be a WATER MUTO??!!! THAT'S JUST KICK ASS!!! wonder who will be the BIG DADDY boss muto?

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-01-2014 8:55 PMI don't care if you, your friend, or anyone else here are scientists. That doesn't change the fact that you're getting your panties in a bunch over a very minor character detail. Godzilla having gills isn't really anything more than a minor detail that justifies one of his abilities (the ability in question being Godzilla staying underwater for very, very long periods of time). It's the equivalent of saying that Anguirus has a very flexible backbone that allows him to roll up into a ball like an armadillo. It's a change to the character, but it's so minor that it doesn't warrent a bunch of forum threads discussing it, let alone one thread.
And even if Godzilla doesn't look like he has gills in the brief glimpses we see of him in the latest trailer, how in the blue hell do you explain this?
This is an image I got from this thread. You see those flaps of skin on the side of Godzilla's neck? They look different than the rest of the skin all around that area. I'm no expert in biology, but I think I've seen enough goldfish, sharks, and what have you to know that those look like gills. If those aren't supposed to be gills, than just what are they? Seriously, I'm all ears as to what those skinflaps could possibly be.

MemberTitanosaurusMar-01-2014 9:18 PMI really don't mind if he has gills. Gills or not, I've come up with my own explanations for just about anything about Godzilla that could prove he could exist in real life, including the whole "gills debacle". So, I;m fine with whatever. I'll update my ideas as more info is shared about the Big G.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-01-2014 11:31 PMYou can't just selectively apply science like that. Oh, Godzilla is a massively and impossibly sized creature that can survive nuclear blasts, but he HAS to have gills to survive underwater for long periods of time?

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-02-2014 1:44 AMWell tell your scientist friend that godzilla doesn't give a **** about science. Godzilla doesn't listen to ****. You can't just through a bull**** scientific fact like tha into godzilla. Surviving nuclear blasts isn't real.....breathing out nuclear energy isn't real and we as fans can accept that fact but still enjoy the mists of forgeting about reality and expeiriancing imagination. But throwing scientific facts doesn't prove **** becuase godzilla isn't 100% realistic. You and your scientific friend can't prove anything just by throwing realistic facts at us.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-03-2014 2:12 AMNot to be mean or anything but you should read my post carefully before you reply cause you didn't read it at all. Like I said godzilla isn't 100% realistic so a scientist can't prove something thats in the imagination zone. I'm no expert on gills but to me they resemble gills ALOT. How about we agree to see the movie first because you seem like a nice member so the last thing I want to do is become enemies with you. Lets hope it doesn't come down to that. Because you would be suprised with the amount of enemies I have and my mail box is full of threats. So are we cool on niether of us is right bro. :D

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-06-2014 4:36 PM It's difficult to say at this point. To me, they look like imbricate (overlapping) scutes (scale-like plates), not gills: He has the same or very similar scutes on the ventral (underside) part of his neck, and those are obviously not gills. Moreover, he appears to have imbricate scales on his arms with the same crenated edges.
I would be surprised if they went through all this effort to give him plausible reptile/dinosaur anatomy only to put amphibian gills on him. Then again, considering that he would need connective tissue vastly stronger than that possessed by any other organism to support his his 60,000 tons of mass combined with the fact that he is radiotrophic (feeds on ionizing radiation) AND he can project plasma from his throat, a reptile with secondarily-evolved external gills is a relatively much smaller stretch biologically speaking. Lastly, some fish have both lungs and gills, as do many amphibians, so Godzilla would still have lungs as well as gills assuming he has them at all in the movie. Right now, they just look like overlapping scales like those of his throat and arms.
