MemberMothra LarvaeJan-18-2014 10:45 AMJurassic Park only has 15 minutes worth of dinosaur airtime TOTAL. Cloverfield, maybe 2 minutes at MAX. Jaws, 4-5 minutes. Super 8, 4-5 minutes. Alien, 3-5 minutes. Pacific Rim, 20-30 minutes. I was so relieved when gareth said the film is like Jaws. Too much of the monster and destruction and it ends up meaning absolutely nothing. Realistically, I don't see Godzilla getting more than 10-15 minutes of airtime And that's being generous. I expect a lot of shots like the trailer where you see him all distorted through smoke and you kinda have to twist your head to get a better view etc. One of the only official shot of him is literally through the facemask and goggles of Ford. so expect to see those types of shots.
Any other movies you want to compare Airtime just leave in the comments below
Think I'm totally off? Let me know!

GODZILLA HIMSELF
MemberMothra LarvaeJan-18-2014 10:51 AMi think the amount of screentime(if thats what you mean) for godzilla will depend on how long the movie is total, if its a really long movie, for example like king kong, than pherhaps he should have at least 30 minutes of clearly visible screentime. as far as godzillas presence, well i think he should be there kind of in the shadows for a very large portion of the movie.
king of the monsters

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-18-2014 10:54 AMin all of those movies I mentioned, the presence of those beings is always there. And just that is more powerful than a clunky and exaggerated brawl. Whether it be Alien or Cloverfield, the monster is there and you know it, and it makes their appearance that much better.

AdminGodzillaJan-18-2014 12:37 PMIn the original Godzilla (1954) Godzilla only has about 15 minutes worth of screen time. But his presence was felt a lot longer.
Really, I don't care how much screentime Godzilla gets as long as it's all well made. A good movie is a good movie. As long as it's compelling I won't care or notice how much screentime Godzilla gets.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-18-2014 1:08 PMI'd have to say that I agree with you 100%. So many people want a movie in which this Godzilla will get 1 hour and 45 minutes of sceen time. Think about the many other monster movies that do that. Like a werewolf movie. The first time the man changes into the beast(This is in general speak) it's INCREDIBLE. The next 13 times? Not so much. When something gets shoved to be shown to please a crowd, it loses the awe factor. It is almost as if you were starving and someone gave you a cracker every hour. And each time its just as good because you're starving. If you're handed the entire box(Which I'll assume is more than you can eat), the taste will become stale, and suddenly those crackers aren't as enjoyable. I know that was a HORRIBLE analogy lol. Anyway, Godzilla should have the same creature tone as Jaws. Plus, aren't there other monsters and monster fights? The screen time should be great if done right.

I understand and agree with what you're getting at. I think this was addressed very well in Edward's most recent quote:
"If everything is whizz-bang constantly throughout the whole movie it just becomes nothing. So you have to carefully go to quiet and restrain things so that the other things hit you hard."
