With the release of the M.U.T.O. (I’ll be calling it MUTO for my convenience) website, I’ve noticed that most people have been taking the time to celebrate that Serizawa will be in the movie and that there’s even a viral website up... I’ve noticed that nobody has asked certain questions that have been bugging me since the time it was released (about 10 PM december 8, EST).
What is MUTO, who is Monarch exactly? What is Monarch’s goal for MUTO?
I’ve been on the site for about three hours, typing in different things, and what from what I’ve gathered, these are the answers (SPECULATION BEGINS HERE)
Monarch is the “leader” of MUTO.
MUTO is also associated with the monsters known as mutos (please take note that muto is monster and MUTO is the organization).
The winged muto description has “take over the world”.
My theory on Monarch and MUTO’s goal is this:
WORLD DOMINATION.
Yes, world domination. Crazy, eh? Not too crazy when you consider why they might want to take over the world and how they do it.
I believe that MUTO is in control of the mutos, or at least to some degree. This is based on the MUTO/muto thing.
So, why might they want to be in control of the world?
My best guess is something that you’d probably never guessed had you read that this movie was going to be “realistic”.
Alien invasion.
I knew it. You think I’m a fool. That’s cool. Before you press the “back” button near the address bar of your internet browser, please consider that it’s very realistic that aliens exist, in fact, it shouldn’t even be debated. Even if they aren’t real, you can still PORTRAY them realistically.
But back to the alien invasion thing. If you type in any of the godzilla monster names (except for Jet Jaguar), without spaces, it says “cannot confirm NOR deny the existence of this lifeform”. Whether that’s just something for fanboys and fangirls to orgasm over or not, is up for debate. Let’s assume that it’s because that there’s a possibility that Toho might give the rights to Legendary/WB (I forgot who won Godzilla in the divorce) even more monsters...
Now, it’s not unreasonable to assume that these aliens have monsters of their own, this is a Godzilla movie after all. I think it’s very reasonable to assume that if any alien monsters from Toho make an appearance, it’s going to be Ghidorah (most marketable alien in Toho’s Godzilla franchise).
I’ve bet that you’ve forgotten that I’m talking about MUTO’s goals, huh?
Yeah, it’s pretty distracting when you bring the possibility of other monsters being in Legendary’s movie.
So, how does MUTO go about uniting the world? Through the mutos.
Before you go “but BCrockett, why would they kill people to save people, that’s counter productive!”, allow me to say that Monarch may have a very “the ends justify the means” mindset, I know that I do.
With my estimation of how many people will be killed during this plan (0.5 billion lives lost), there’s still enough people in the world to “successfully” ward off an invasion force, especially if Godzilla is still alive, of which I have no doubts.
So why World Domination? Why not just tell governments?
This is key in helping me speculate Monarch’s character... Monarch had proof that an invasion was imminent, but because Monarch wasn’t apart of any official establishment involved with extraterrestrials, Monarch wasn’t taken seriously. As such, Monarch created MUTO (Monarch’s United Terrestrial Offensive?) as a way to bring the world together (using the mutos threat) in order to make forming a counter-attack much more easier.
Of course, the only thing that really stands in the way of this goal is Godzilla. A creature capable of killing the mutos. Which puts Godzilla at the top of the kill list for MUTO.
Those are my thoughts, and what did you think? Did I miss anything important? Do you agree with me? Disagree? Tell me why either way, as I’d like to hear your thoughts.
