After some wild theories to myself and many comparisons, I found out the following... 1: Notice the gills, they\\\'re shark gills! Remember, \\\"Unlike bony fish that have a protective bony plate covering their vulnerable gills, the gill slits of a shark are exposed and visible.\\\" 2: Remember the pupils on our Godzilla are slits (as I pointed out before in the Realism thread)? Well, sharks can have this too! Take a look at this \\\"Many shallow water sharks are able to regulate the amount of light entering their eyes by dilating or contracting their pupils in the same manner that we do. In some species this is done laterally whereby the sharks eyes resemble those of a cat. However in some skate and ray species the pupil contracts into a horseshoe shaped slit. This creates a kind of double vision which the skate or ray can use to determine distance. Some species use a different technique all together. They have a ragged flap which slides over the pupil effectively blocking out much of the light entering the eye. This flap produces multiple images similar to those produced by the crescent shaped pupil and again aids in depth perception.\\\" 3: Now let\\\'s look at the teeth. Let\\\'s compare to your typical Japanese Gojira (say the Final Wars version)... ...notice our upcoming American Godzilla has a more \\\"cluttered\\\" set of teeth than Gojira? Just look at the upper jaw, it seems to be our Godzilla has teeth RIGHT BEHIND the frontal teeth (especially look at that frontal tooth sitting higher than the rest)! Even the front bottom jaws (though barely visible) also seems to have this trait. Sharks have rows of teeth, all ready to take the place of those that fall from the front. Sharks in general are the best hunters of the sea, many also dwell in the dark of the sea. Sharks can sense all around them (even sense vibrations and electrical impulses) so nothing can hide from them! In prehistoric times, Megalodon (the mightiest shark) could even rival Sperm Whales like Moby Dick! Can you think of a better \\\'master of the sea\\\' to use as a basis for Godzilla\\\'s origins?

I believe in Jesus Christ, who's my Lord and Savior.

As usual, you have nice facts, but according to some people dude those aren't GILLS, but instead scale/armor that seems to look like gills. Interesting nonetheless.

@YOKOSHAI - Those are in fact gills my friend. If you've ever taken a biology class and studied amphibians or other species which have gills, they're plain to see on Godzilla's neck. The frilled edges are actually microscopically folded surfaces of tissue used to transport blood and also to filter gases such as oxygen to the body. Why? Because lungs are not powerful enough to sustain life beneath the sea due to how little oxygen actually exists within the waters of our oceans. Even a creature of Godzilla's size must have some kind of oxygen filtration system in place in order to breath underwater. Without it, he will drown. Remember that this movie is a "realistic" take on the creature. In the old Godzilla movies, Toho never touched on his ability to breath underwater, but that didn't mean that somewhere in Godzilla's biology there wasn't some kind of internal gill-like structure to help him breath. Again, lungs are not suitable for undersea life. Go do some research on amphibians and other animals that live with gills and check the images as to where the gills are and what they look like. They are in fact gills to anyone with any knowledge of basic animal biology.

Well, since a natural creature like Godzilla can't exist normally, gills are irrelevant, especially considering this article that shows why he doesn't nor ever will need them, food, oxygen, and can bypass the Square Cube Law,and has his powers: http://www.angelfire.com/ego/g_saga/kaijubiologyarticle.html
