Over the last few weeks, I've read many comments about how they want suit acting, and Godzilla to tone down the realism by several turns of the knob. Why in the hell would you want Godzilla to do horrible in the box office? So you can get a dose of nostalgia? Suit acting, as great as it was, does not hold up by today's standards of "special effects". We can use CGI, or go back to using firecrackers and bottle rockets during combat. Why do you want Godzilla to turn down the realism? Because the '98 film was supposed to be realistic? Please! That was campy, stupid, and even more unrealistic than the Godzilla presented in Toho's movies. And why the hell are we so damn picky? "the teeth are too small." So what? I, for one, am not going to be looking at Godzilla's mouth the entire time. "The feet aren't big enough" Jesus damn, we haven't even seen his feet in anything official yet! And can we stop complaining about the trailer? for one damn second, I'd like to watch a video about Godzilla on youtube without hearing, or reading, "Where's my trailer!?" Warner Bros and Legendary have a plan. They don't want the trailer being released yet? Deal with it! Believe it or not, there's a lot of intrigue and curiosity surrounding this movie, and when those trailers were "leaked", do you have any idea how many people googled "Godzilla 2014"? It more than doubled in a single day. Legendary and Warner Bros, love'em or hate'em, know what they're doing. Oh, and god forbid Legendary doesn't add Toho monsters in Legendary's movies. Jesus Christ, why can't you just deal with original monsters, maybe a homage or two? This movie was given to Legendary, by Toho, in order to put their own spin on the story. To add Toho monsters in the movies.... You just might as well give Toho back the Godzilla rights and forget about seeing Godzilla any time soon. *sigh* Christ, I needed to write that. I'm going to apologize right now, I'm sorry, but you all don't realize how lucky you are to even be getting a Godzilla film. Toho doesn't have any real plans for the franchise anymore. Hell, the demolished the water set where so many scenes of Godzilla were filmed. They aren't even going back to suit acting, to do so would to embarrass themselves at being outdone by someone else using their property. So please, stop complaining about details surrounding this movie. And just be thankful that you're getting a movie instead of misplaced hope. *end rant* Well, I'm glad I got that off my chest. Hate me, agree with me. I don't really care at this point. Think I'm a jerk that needs to shut the hell up? Maybe you think I brought up some good points? Cool. Who here doesn't really care what we get, as long as it's Godzilla? Who here really wants me to take a cyanide pill right about now? -Sincerely, This Mofo P.S. I have to say, I wasn't a Godzilla fan until I saw the trailer, it gave me goosebumps and made me REALLY want to see the movie. It looks very special. I wasn't a fan of the older campy style, but this, oh my god I cannot wait.

Hi BCROCKETT94, The rant was fine until you called people out and called them names. Forums and debates are healthy so long as people attack the behavior / topic and not the individual. I'd ask that you edit out the "Ass Holes" bits, as they are excessive and not needed. You can have a difference of opinion - that's expected - and granted I agree with some of your points, the extreme knit-picking can get ridiculous. But I need to stress to you and anyone reading this - that attacking any individual(s) is prohibited on here. Stick to debating passionately over topics and this case excessive knit-picking - but don't go as far as to call anyone an Ass Hole - nobody wants to read that. With that, I'll leave this discussion open for opposing parties to have their say and maybe explain why they have such high expectations for the most minute details - but the Staff and I will be keeping an eye on this topic to ensure the debate doesn't turn into a troll fest or flame war. No need to take opposing opinions personally. With that said, carry on. (after you make those edits)

Okay, I think I got rid of all the "assholes". And made the calling out thing more vague as to hopefully not target people, but the idea I was going off about. I don't recall attacking any individual. Did I miss something while editing again? The only person I recall mentioning was you, Chris, and that was asking if there was too much swearing.

Suit acting, I don't really care about, it can be done well though, the only upside to CGI is that it will allow the monster to do things and be more mobile in fights than a suit actor ever could, so perhaps suitimation would work better at some points of the movie with full CGI in the fights. Realism just shouldn't be included in a movie about a giant radioactive dinosaur. Sorry for those on this realism train but just because it worked well with Batman(debatable because even those who love the movie have to admit the degree of seriousness it took sometimes held back the story from a superhero perspective rather than a character study of Bruce Wayne that it became) doesn't mean it will work well with Godzilla, as batman isn't so outside the scope of realism it would distract you. As a side not you can't compare the realism of Tristar's and toho's as they are both very far outside of that, with the small exception of the Godzilla from tristar having some degree of animal traits moreso than the original. Don't really nitpick or care if people do so can't really throw my opinion onto that subject As for the trailers the same amount of Google searches and uped interest if not more would have happened had a real trailer been released and not taken down. I'm actually for new monsters over the overused toho 1s, however i will say why I believe people want old monsters back; The enemies in godzilla throughout the whole series have become a big a part as Godzilla himself. Had it not been for them the series wouldn't have taken off, been able to explore as many routes, and change tone throughout. Has it not always been in our interest to see a more well produced higher budget version of a toho Godzilla? For most people You can't say godzilla and not also immediately think of the various monsters he's fought. To say we're lucky isn't really a fair term, luck would be remaking this and letting us see it for free, but we will all be helping to finance it when it is released so if anything the studio is lucky to get such an iconic character in an age that is full of remakes and sequels. The studio wouldn't be doing this out of the good of their hearts if they didn't think they could make a profit.

The main problem I have with suit acting is that it's not very "mobile" as you say. It's also very apparent that it's a man in a suit, at least for me it is, which takes away from the awe and wonder of a giant, radioactive beast destroying a city. I think realism is a very important part for Godzilla to be successful. Whether or not there should be realism, I don't really care. But in order for it to do even remotely well in the box office, it's gonna need to be presented in a way that's very believable. I couldn't care less if we get a campy Godzilla movie or a realistic one, but if they're marketing it as realistic then I have absolutely no problem with that. You can compare the two. People do it all the time. TriStar, if I remember correctly, had also marketed a "realistic" approach to Godzilla, but in my opinion, the Toho creation turned out to be far more believable than the "TriStar disaster" ever achieved, which is all I meant to point out by putting them together. Regarding your comment about my comment on trailers, maybe, maybe not. I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on trailers, but regardless, interest was definitely piqued. It's nice to finally see that someone else doesn't want to see Toho monsters. I guess I can see where you're coming from. I try to see things from both sides, but I never really considered that point. However, I still think it's appropriate to leave the Toho monsters in Japan where they belong. I say "lucky" loosely. I meant that Toho could have just kept the rights to the franchise/character and we'd never see a movie newer than Final Wars. Which I think was going to be Godzilla's ultimate fate anyways, had Banno asked for the rights and brought them to Legendary. I say "lucky" because we're even getting a Godzilla film, campy, serious, realistic, unrealistic, it's happening. Did Toho have to give Legendary the rights to Banno? Nope. Not at all. It's through a series of fortunate events that Godzilla is even allowed to be shown on the big screen in the united states at all.

I understand what youre saying, but in the end everyone will have different opinions. Also, when people read about the movie and watch the two trailers we had, everyone starts to get their own idea about the tone; Alot of people see a very dark and realistic film, while i may see it in another light even though its the same stuff we have read/watched. About us being picky...Well, i cant argue with it. Some of us are really picky, but i do think SOME of it is justified; We want to see Godzilla being Godzilla in a big budget cgi movie, and last time we were promised this, what did we get? A slap in the face. Its the fear of that which makes people a bit picky. But as i said, some are a bit too picky.

This movie is not going to fail guys Edwards is doing a great job even if the suit has some problems still the movie will work it,s not going to fail and also Edwards want to add new monsters too his movies like he wants too start a new series so how about you calm down and be happy about this movie instead of being so picky >.>

JUST MY THOUGHT Realism sure is a big worry for us all, but after I thought about it...we already HAVE giant monsters.....so like, what's to worry too much on about realism, they're ALREADY THERE. [i[b]GIANT[/b]][/i] & [i]Classic[/i] reminiscent Godzilla design; check [b]other[/b][i] giant[/i] [b]monsters[/b] ([i]flying[/i] and not); check [b]ATOMIC[/b] freaking [b]BREATH[/b]; check so far, I think it's already "unrealistic" enough and the realistic aspects to it would just be the origins since it'll probably be related to today's kind of stuff, and the reactions of the people and the fear of having these monsters..... once again, I'm not right, I'm just thinking about it

The reason why the '98 movie did so bad was because they hired Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich. These two haven't made a good movie.. Ever. The best thing they ever made before Godzilla was Independence Day, and that wasn't even all that good. Had they stuck with their original choice in director, we would have gotten a much different movie, probably more like the Godzilla we're getting today. The "realistic" aspects of the film go beyond just his origins. Reactions are a big part of the realism, but a lot of Godzilla's design has been carefully constructed to present a creature that could be real. Gills, pupils, color scheme, and even the teeth. Now, I'm not saying it's very realistic for an animal to be 500 ft tall, weigh over 200k tons, that utilizes nuclear energy, but they're trying to make it as believable as possible. As such, I wouldn't expect the classic atomic breath to be in place. Rather something more terrifying. If they use the classic breath, awesome. That's cool. I just don't think they're going that route. So yeah, realism is a big part of this movie. But really, I couldn't care less if it were realistic or not. I just think that we're lucky enough to see a Godzilla movie. They could go with the extreme campiness of the showa series, or they could go for the horror of the original movie... Hell, they could just go with straight up action like they did with the Heisei series. A mix of the three like they did with the X series (Millennium series)... I wouldn't care. Godzilla is Godzilla in my books. Just get Godzilla in there, and I'll be okay with the movie, have he fangs or small teeth, small or large feet, green grey or black, small or large.... If Godzilla is in it, I'm cool with it.

All I know is that, if this was a movie made by Toho people wouldn't be complaining about anything (the design, "realism", development of human characters throughout the film, etc.). As I said on another post, I really can't see at all what's the problem with the film. Personally I have always had faith in this film ever since it was first announced in 2010, and I have no doubt it is going to be awesome. Can't tell the same about other guys who think this is going to be 1998 all over again just because it is being produced by an american studio. Gareth Edwards is the right man for the job.

Godzilla has always been realistic. Not in the nuclear dinosaur aspect, but in a post apocalyptic. Nuclear warfare is real and can still happen, even though all the major bomb threats were made back in the Cold War era. Godzilla, in many ways, is the product of man kinds arrogance. Just want to get the whole realism argument out of the way. Now, for the fans whining about the design, I personally think it's pathetic. "It looks like Zilla!" Since when did the design even look remotely like Emmerich's "Godzilla"? We got a true Godzilla design, and that's all that matters.

I think some people are making the mistake of thinking this will be more realistic than it is actually going to be. I'm guessing it will be about as realistic as something like Cloverfield. About having a Toho monster, I'm fine with there not being one in the first film. Let Godzilla be center stage. But some of his enemies are almost as iconic as he is, and it would be kind of disappointing to not see at least one of two of them by the time the series is over. And about suit actors, get over it. suit acting just can't compare to today's CGI technology. before now, i could understand the argument, but now its just hardly an argument at all.
