Godzilla x Kong sequel taking the Monsterverse back to a serious tone like Godzilla 2014?

It appears Dave Callaham has been tapped to write the script for the next Godzilla Monsterverse movie! Callaham did pen an early draft of Godzilla (2014) suggesting tonally, this may be the direction Legendary want to take the franchise in after the campy-styling of the previous film.

Adam Wingard had previously stated if he was to helm another Monsterverse sequel it would be Godzilla-focused and draw inspiration from Godzilla vs. Destoroyah - leading some fans to assume that foreshadows the "death" of Godzilla and the introduction of Destoroyah or a new rival Titan of that same caliber. 

Personally, I'm all for it. While I enjoyed Godzilla x Kong, it remains my least favorite of the series. Godzilla 2014 and KOTM remain my personal favorites and I think it's due to the overall tone those films had - G2014 being the most "realistic" and mature of them all.
