Godzilla 2018's Opening Credits Sequence

I myself love the opening to the 2014 film as it really solidifies humanity's history with Godzilla, and our determination to initially kill him.

An interesting question is whether or not Godzilla 2018 will have a similar opening credits style, and if so, how will it be presented? It probably would depend on your own opinion on Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah's origins for the sequel since there would be sketchings, notes and files on the three monsters, with some documents detailing, or atleast speculating on, their origins. What do you think the opening will be like? How will it be presented?

Please leave your thoughts below!

I think that for the opening credits they should show diffrent news companies talking about the events that happened in the first film, interview's with survivers of the battle in San Francisco, talking about weather or not Godzilla is a threat to humanity or not, and possibly showing the bodies of the Muto's and what the government plans to do with them.

Godzilla... Truly a God incarnate.

@ Ultrazero80 - Agreed, it's the most plausible way to start the movie. I think, that a Monster Fight will start within the first 10 min. of the film as an opener. Pacific Rim managed to insert over 8 Kaiju and 6 Robots.

I'm all for the opening credits consisting of a montage of newsreel footage talking about the San Francisco incident and showing the aftermath of the battle between Godzilla and the M.U.T.O.s, as well as various people arguing about the danger Godzilla represents and what should be done with him. And maybe throw in some references to various other monster sightings around the world, hinting at the emergence of the rest of the film's monster cast.

I agree with everybody. I think a montage of the aftermath would make the most sense. Even throw in some new footage such as Godzilla sightings, Godzilla raiding a nuclear plant, Godzilla swimming in the ocean or something along those lines.

DESTROYAHX- I don't think that having a fight 10 minutes in would be a good idea. Mainly because the movie is going to need enough time be be able to establish the new characters and monsters in the movie, as well as to not overwhelm the audiance with to many fights. I think that the first monster fight shoud probably happen 20 to 30 minutes into the movie.

Godzilla... Truly a God incarnate.

Heres my idea:

Universal and Legendary logos appear (obviously). The sound of thunder presents the opening, aruined Tokyo is shown with a thunderstorm present. It slowly pans into the destroyed Tokyo, showing dead bodies and raging fires with a horror/sadness themed ambience. Skycrapers come crumbling down on top of rubble. It fades to black and cuts back to another part of the city. The camera stops, you hear a monstrous growl. The scene is pitch black. A lightning strike flashes and you see the silhouette of the King himself roaring towards the sky shaking the theater. The scene changes immediately to the logo of Godzilla 2, with the echo of the iconic roar.

^My God. That has to be the most awesome idea for a Godzilla movie opening I have ever read/heard in my life.

^^^ Kinda reminds me of the first godzilla teaser with all that crumbling and the scream, but that one was in daylight.

I think it's quite clear that us fans wanna see an opening that's a lot more destructive, showcasing that this film wants to do away with Godzilla's "protector" status that he gained at the end of the first movie.

But at the same time, it needs to be foreboding and ominous, to give us fans what we truly expected from the concept trailer shown to us: a dark and atmospheric piece that plays on the fear of what we cannot control.

GIGAN923 - I happen to believe that the best way to open a film is also the simplest. Allude to your material in such a fashion as to draw your audience in. If I had it my way, the "beginning sequence" of the film would consist of a dark screen and ambient sounds - perhaps the faint and slightly growing thump of massive, distant footfalls against the sound of the ocean. That would be both ominous and incredibly thrilling! :)
