I still think it's hilarious there are still people annoyed that the trailer isn't out. Why would there be? This movie is still over nine months away and some people feel like Legendary/WB should be advertising it like it comes out tomorrow.

You know they'll be putting out an epic trailer for the Super Bowl... hopefully lol

You'd think Legendary would've learned from Pacific Rim that keeping a movie so secret and hidden backfires. I fail to recall how soon Tristar began marketing for G98, but I recall that it was well in advance of the opening date. At least release a teaser or something. The "leaked" footage from the Con looked pretty good.

@TheDude I don't know what movies you think are being advertised on television that come out in January, but you're mistaken. Television advertisements only come in about a month before movies are released. I can just about guarantee there is no movie on the market coming out this January that has ads on television right now. That would be a massive waste of money.
@DC67
I think it would be unwise to assume their plan for Godzilla is similar to the marketing plan for Pacific Rim. They know that plan failed. Besides they've already generated plenty of buzz with news about comic con; that's enough until a polished, official trailer get okayed for this winter. There is such a thing as coming in to hot. For example, the '98 movie had a teaser trailer a year in advanced and was still considered a flop. So that's not necessarily a winning ad campaign either.

^Mainly b/c G98 sucked so badly! I got pretty excited, despite the giant 'chicken foot' we all saw in that teaser.
September 04, 2013
As much as I agree, the fact it sucked is still rather subjective. Pacific Rim didn't suck, but it flopped at the box office. (Unless we're counting international box office.)
There's an art to this. You either come in too hot so people get tired of seeing so much of the movie advertised or you do too little and no one knows about it. At this point Legendary/WB is doing just fine as far as ads and trailers go.
I think not following the campaign of G'98 or Pacific Rim is a wise decision.

They have "created a buzz because of comic con"? Really?? With who?? A large room filled with people?....sorry but I disagree with you here. Most people don't know a comic con exist or care it exist. No buzz has been generated. If anything , it has died away...anyway, I bet this movie gets delayed .

@MikeTheG
Comic-Con is a massive event that has coverage through various internet outlets and television. I assume you weren't one of the ones in that "big room"? But you've clearly still heard about the news. That is, by definition, entertainment buzz. The simple coverage is what generated it.
Not to mention the massive effort one of the PR firms went through to create a mini-Godzilla walk-through which got a lot press through various entertainment outlets, including Variety-- Hollywood's biggest business magazine.
Just because a select few got to experience it, doesn't mean information didn't get out and buzz wasn't generated. Besides, targeting the fanbase first is a wise decision and there's not a bigger [official] outlet for franchise fanbases than comic con. I know a lot of people are upset that a trailer didn't get released and that they feel entitled to it for some reason, but this instant gratification that people feel online is no reason to be so venomous at WB or Legendary. They'll release the trailer when they feel necessary and right now it isn't necessary. The movie is still over eight months away.
I also see no evidence of the movie being delayed. Shooting wrapped over a month ago and post-production has been in high gear since then with seven to eight more months to polish it up. If anything other movies have pushed themselves away from Godzilla's release date. The Rise of the Planet of the Apes sequel was pushed to late summer despite originally being dated for the weekend after Godzilla and Michael Bay's Ninja Turtles movie was supposed to be released the same weekend as Godzilla and has also been pushed back. Godzilla is showing no signs of budging, so I don't see where the idea it will get delayed comes from.

That idea was planted in my brain when I read where the Godzilla that was under the sheet. You know, the one with the elephant feet, WAS the actual design . But when fan response was not favorable, they quickly stated" this isn't the one" because they had to go back and re due the effect shots....just what I read. And no,..i don't feel a sense of entitlement for a trailer or anything or don't feel like i'm not worthy for not going to SDCC...I just think a lot of us on here just don't care right now...i'll start getting excited in mid April.
September 06, 2013
Considering there was no Godzilla under the sheet at all and that was simply Bandai (acting separately from Legendary and WB) trying to increase unnecessary hype, I doubt there's will be any reason for a delay.
The Godzilla design seen at the end of the Godzilla Encounter [which leaked] is said to be close to the actual design of the monster. They said it wasn't final, but that probably means it will undergo several tweaks. Nothing too major I'm sure.
I highly doubt an entire, multi-million dollar production will re-evaluate their post-production schedule because some fans were critical of Godzilla's feet.
As for not caring much right now, that's probably for the best. As I've said before there's such a thing as coming in too hot and there's no reason to increase buzz for a movie eight months away.

Ok you all need to shut the hell up about the whole trailor thing. We are going to get the trailor eventually, mabye somewere in November or December. But the only thing that annoys me is all the complaining and rant videos.
I have become death.......the casher at the donut shop.......

Wow, don't get your testicle chords in a knot, guys! We are still only 9 months away from this movie! And the only reason the movies that come out in January have trailers and stuff is because January is only 5 months away.
September 06, 2013
Hey GOJIRA 2014...I don't think you or anybody else for that matter need to tell anybody to "shut the hell up". we will talk about what we want to...when we want to ,..as often as we want to....
September 07, 2013
Hopefully a Trailer debuts in November, and a 2nd Official Trailer in March/April.
September 08, 2013
^That's probably a fairly accurate hope/estimation. I'm leaning closer to December though.

A full-fledged trailer right now would be too much, but I think consistent teasing is appropriate for a few reasons. Firstly, Legendary really needs to drive the case home over time that this won’t be the ’98 Godzilla. The other day I heard two idiots on the bus joking about the Godzilla movie they’ve just heard about, wondering if he was going to lay eggs like “in the original”. The public needs to be aware that this isn’t the same monster, but not necessarily through a trailer. Secondly, his presence in teaser material should reflect his character…which is mysterious. His presence ahead of time needs to be just as secretive, derelict and unknown as the true original. Maybe a teaser poster every two months or so showing off bits of anatomy, skin texture, other monsters, characters, but not him out in the open in the sunlight. Thirdly I notice that a lot of upcoming movies hold off ALL information until the last two months, and then bombard a tv audience with a ‘sizzle reel’ revealing every great shot, quote and effect from the movie. Godzilla shouldn’t be spoiled too early or too late, Legendary just needs to put the advertising rubric down and try a Goldi-locks approach to this. That said, if I have to wait until the Hobbit to see Godzilla I’ll be really angry. Not because I had to wait, but because I won’t find Smaug scary at all after a Godzilla teaser.

greedy little fans. want everything NOW NOW NOW. Go ahead and boycott the movie. more room for us patient people.
September 11, 2013
Now, now. No one was saying they were going to boycott the movie. Although if they did I wouldn't believe them. :D
