So I was in a live stream with some friends and I brought up the question, will Godzilla die. I don't want Godzilla to die but Someone told me that Gareth Edwards said [ If I don't have any one running out the theaters crying then my job has failed] so the is what worries but I hope it is a human character instead but tell me what you think I would love to hear.

Godzilla is not gonna die, or stay dead at least. It's practically a tradition. You can't have more Godzilla movies without Godzilla. If this is successful, they'll make sequels. Remember, Gareth said himself that if this movie did well, he'd love to do a Destroy All Monsters type movie. In addition, kids will be all over this film. Wouldn't really sell toys if Godzilla stays dead. They'll probably make it seem like he's dead but then show proof he's still out there.

If they do kill Godzilla I hope they do what they did in 85 where they thought they killed him but he lived.

It would not be Godzilla with his true power and near invincibility if he died. I feel it would be enough if after the final battle he were to go back to sea and the human characters would say something like, "He'll be back...," "We'll be seeing him very soon," or, "I don't think we will be seeing the last of him/Godzilla." They can have some catchy quotes for the ending. This would promote sequels or just a simply happy sort of ending.

You know, I'm all for sequels within franchises, but I don't necessarily want a cliffhanger. Lets remember the original movie was supposed to be a one off. Toho wasn't planning on making a sequel, especially not as many as they have. I think it's important for this movie to stand on its own and complete the story on its own. So what if Godzilla dies? Raids Again simply cited there was another Godzilla and most movies simply defeat him in a way that insures human survival, but keeps him alive-- for the time being anyway. I think the important thing is that the movie completes its arc without having to rely on a sequel.
