MemberMothra LarvaeAug-05-2013 9:29 PMAs Godzilla fans we have dedicated our attention on pure excitement for the reboot film (drawing designs in our head, foreshadowing the movie, getting our Godzilla hype up by rewatching movies, etc.), and those that aren't are busy bitching at Legendary to release the trailer. But I think we haven't focused enough on what this film's success could mean for our giant, atomic monster.
Believe it or not, as crappy as the 1998 American made film was, it did manage to reel in new G-fans to look up Godzilla and get into the franchise (one of them being myself). I'd like to believe that if it weren't for the movie's awful critic scores, causing the movie's box office to decline after opening weekend, Godzilla's popularity would've increased even further than it did.
So now it's 2013 and we've got what sounds like not only a good Godzilla movie, but just an overall great movie. Top that off with the already planned merchandise for the movie and we could be talking a huge growth of Godzilla lovers in the community. The success of this franchise could mean big things for the King to come.
What do you guys think? Could this movie's box office and ratings success lead to Godzilla becoming more popular? And if so, what projects and ideas would you like to see come from it? I personally wanna see an animated series but let's not count our luck just yet.
